About Us

The Sommelier Society of America

America’s oldest sommelier and wine education organization

The first American sommeliers were wine waiters at the legendary 21 Club. In 1954 a group formed a society with others from the city’s top restaurants who had the expertise and fluency to guide diners through the city’s increasingly complex wine lists.

The Sommelier Society of America has continuously offered top-notch wine education courses, wine tasting events, and alumni networking for over sixty years in New York City.

Unlike other certification programs, the SSA Certification Course is designed for serious wine professionals who want to study the trade in one of the most thrilling and eclectic wine markets in the world.
