Kingdom Supercultures Seeks Sommelier

Kingdom Supercultures, an innovative startup biotechnology company that works with food and beverage manufacturers, is looking for a trained sommelier to help with new product development. This position will be on a contract basis, with up to 15 hours of work per week, at our office and lab at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

You will work with our team of scientists as they create novel beverages and food. You will use your sensory and culinary knowledge to help us scientifically design products with an exceptional taste profile. Candidates will be expected to:

  • Work with team of scientists to provide sensory guidance (aroma, mouthfeel, taste, flavor profile, etc.) in early-stage creations of novel foods and beverages

  • Provide tasting notes and detailed, written flavor profiles for food/beverage samples to guide tasting panels

  • Perform quality control by tasting sample before the product is shipped to clients

  • Attend virtual meetings with clients to:
    Present tasting notes and guide tasting process
    Interact with client to understand their perception

  • Interpret tasting notes from clients or sensory panels and communicate with science team to improve food and beverage products

KEY QUALITIES

To be considered for this position, you must be a trained/licensed sommelier, and ideally have experience in either beverage testing/product development or in the fine dining industry (as a sommelier, executive chef, or lead pastry chef).

TIME EXPECTATIONS

Time commitment will vary from 0-15 hours/week depending on the predicted workload for each week. While required work hours will be variable, Kingdom Supercultures will work with you to schedule as far in advance as possible in a way that works with your existing schedule.
