Good morning, I'm Dylan York one the teachers here at the Sommelier Society of America. I want to point out a fun little feature of the wines we served in the California class. This is the 2012 Bonnie Doon Le Cigar Volant, a red wine modeled after a Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the South of France. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and sometimes other varietals up to 14 different varieties.
The interesting thing about this wine is that -- created the label he depicted a flying saucer on the label which basically ties back to an old order incident in 1954 where the local town government prohibited any flying saucers to fly over the vineyards and disrupt anything that goes on with the wines, the law was intact at that time. So if you come across a bottle of Le Cigar Volant, turn the back of the bottle and it will tell you the story about this wine!
